DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS COMMON
On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. 1
YOUNG WOMEN ARE THE MOST LIKELY TO BE AFFECTED
Women between the ages of 18-24 are most commonly abused by an intimate partner. 1
BRAIN INJURY IS A VERY REAL AND SERIOUS CONSEQUENCE
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 11% of TBI deaths, hospitalizations, and ED visits combined (a total of 156,000 each year) are related to assaults. 2
Strangulation or blows to the head may occur in 50 to 90 percent of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) physical assaults against women. 2
